Coastal Conservation Association Capt Pablo Rodriguez

Captain Pablo was introduced to fishing at a very young age by his father. It all began many years ago with fishing for Red Drums, Black Drums and Corvina off the shores of Uruguay, a small country in South America

Pablo was seven years old when his mother and father decided to make the move to Miami in 1983. While both parents worked hard to better themselves and take care of the family, his father was determined to stay focused and continue to pursue the much loved sport of fishing. Concentrating on the Miami Beach areas and Key Biscayne, he fished as much as he could, all the while building his experience with a strong desire to pass his expertise on to his son.

By the time Pablo was a teenager, he had many friends with the same intense interest in fishing and boating as he had. They spent many days and nights fishing in the back country of Florida catching Dolphin, Tuna, Wahoo, Snapper, and of course Snook, all the while gaining valuable experience and at the same time, having a blast! What an addiction this had become; fishing, fishing, fishing and of course, don’t forget girls and school (in his free time)!

After Pablo finished school, he worked hard and learned a variety of skills such as bartending, electrical technician and restaurant assistant. He also worked for the family for a number of years learning the ins and outs of the construction business.

Finally, an opportunity came along that would get him a little closer to where he is today; working on boats and completing the training necessary for a Yamaha certificate, this was just what he needed. He began to get more involved in the boating and sport fishing community. He mated on a few boats out of Miami but after a few years, he wanted more. With a little motivation from great friends and advice from a loyal family, Pablo decided to get his captain's license. He took a big gamble and moved to Marathon in 2004. Eventually, he began to be introduced to the right people. He bought his own flats boat and was very successful for the first year. As time went on, he continued to captain his 20’ flats boat and was also offered a job running a center console, 28 foot. Pablo still loves fishing for all species of fish in any type of water but mostly enjoys the Florida flats and backcountry. Now in 2008, Pablo has focused on specializing on these areas that he knows and loves so well and is dedicated on continuing to build on this beautiful lifestyle for as long as possible.

This has been a short summary on how Captain Pablo has started and how his life has evolved around this sport fishing madness!
